Product Designer

Saltyco is looking for a Product Designer to join us on a 6-month contract. You will lead the projects of our product department while one of our team members goes on leave. There is potential for contract renewal/extension following a review at 6 months.
As a Product Designer, you will be expected to utilise your entire range of product and visual design skills. You will be responsible for ensuring that Saltyco's vision is aligned through all design proposals, including product mock-ups and iterative sample prototypes . Moreover, you will be responsible for ensuring sustainability in every decision you make. Saltyco's ethos is to be planet-positive, and you will have to pursue the proposals that can secure that.
You will work with our first product BioPuff®. BioPuff® is a plant-based fibre fill for use as an alternative to goose-down or synthetic fillers. At saltyco® the Product Designer works closely with the rest of the team, our customers, manufacturing contractors and quality assurance entities.
We are a materials science start-up that is already working with clients in the apparel industry. In this role, you will be in charge of overseeing the technical aspects of the product when talking with potential clients and the technological development of meeting clients' requirements.
This is a full-time position for 6 months, with potential for a contract renewal following a review.
Your Key Responsibilities Include
Lead the manufacturing side of product integration, including garment samples design and product presentation prototypes.
Work regularly with third party manufacturers on developing client’s samples.
Create tech-packs for garment samples production.
Build rapid prototypes for performance testing (launderability, colour leakage, etc.)
Do research and source fabric options for samples.
Build the manufacturing sample archive.
Become the creative voice for new proposals to present our product to clients.
Participate in Saltyco’s weekly meetings to remain consistently updated with clients requirements and creative opportunities.
Work closely with our clients’ product teams.
Work closely with the other team members to ensure the design development aligns with the branding guidelines and the company’s vision.
On some occasions work with performance and quality testing facilities.
Attend International Fairs & Conferences related to the insulation and textile industry.
Build showcase material for potential events.
Who Are You
You share our passion for wanting to shift the textile industry towards planet-positivity.
You have at least 1 year of work experience or you hold a masters degree related to product design.
You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design, Textiles, Fashion or similar creative field.
You are a born maker who sits between product and graphic design.
You have a great understanding of building things physically and digitally (2D is enough, no 3D requirements).
You can demonstrate your product knowledge (preferably including specific projects related to fashion and sustainability).
You have proficiency in the Adobe suite, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.
You are driven, able to work efficiently by yourself and in teams
You are creative and adaptable. You like to show initiative and propose ideas.
You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
You like working on different projects simultaneously.
You have great interpersonal and communication skills for presenting technical data.
Bonus But Not Essential
You have experience constructing garments and using sewing machines.
You have experience working with graphic design content.

Salary
Depending on qualifications and experience, the salary for this job varies between £26,000 to £36,000 pa.
